The artist's biography
Touareg by Christiane LEGENDRE
A student at the Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1970 to 1973, Christiane Legendre shares her time between Paris and the Vexin, while setting aside precious moments each year in the Sahara, between Libya, Algeria and Niger. A visual artist by training, she sets out to capture the elegance of the Touareg peoples draped in their fine multilayered fabrics using the simplest means of expression, pencil drawings or water colours. “Since she started following the Touaregs, Christiane Legendre has become an interpreter of the language of the desert. In her photographs, writings, sketches and water colours, she reveals to us the delicate sensuality of a dune, the intense stare of a child or the ancestral gestures of a nomad. Her sympathetic eye captures the true spirit of the Sahel, soft yet harsh, hot and cold, deserted and inhabited, engulfing us in its immensity and putting us in our place as human beings. Without any doubt, Christiane has found her place.”
