The artist's biography
"Deux femmes" by Michel Four
Michel FOUR was born in Aurillac in 1945. He has an ever-growing number of exhibitions in France and abroad, drawing his inspiration from a growing range of subjects and themes. His work always reveals the crucial importance of the drawing.
Deux Femmes (Two Women) is a nude with a suggestive body, a burning memory of fleeting glances at women’s bodies composed in three shades: white, black and red.
The white conveys the mood of a recreated scene in which the lines of the face and the physical body detail fade away in the veiled surroundings. The scene has no associations at all with notions of space, taking one instead on a journey through the nebulous reaches of the soul.
The black reveals the lines and their fluidity. The depth of the strokes outlines the shapes, giving them body and substance and underscoring their movement through space.
The red is the mark of ardour, of a torrid and fiendish mood, of impetuous desire.
These three colours symbolize a confrontation of purity, violence and fiery passion, appealing to feelings of frailty, depth and ardour, and highlighting immaculate beauty, the negative image and intensity that reigns in us all.
